The Rutgers Discovery Informatics Institute (RDI²) is a unit of the Rutgers Office of Research and Economic Development. The overarching goal of RDI² is to establish a university-wide comprehensive and internationally competitive Computational and Data-Enabled Science and Engineering program at Rutgers University based on the integration of research, education, and infrastructure that stimulates new thinking and new practices essential to addressing grand challenges in science, engineering, society and industry.
Learn More About RDI²
RDI² bridges traditional research boundaries and catalyzes socio-technical changes in research across all fields of science, engineering, humanities and social sciences stimulating new thinking and new practices essential to address grand challenges in science, engineering, society and industry. RDI²’s multidisciplinary competencies span large scale data management and analytics, computational and data-enabled science and engineering, and advanced cyberinfrastructure. RDI² staff have expertise in cutting-edge computing and data technologies and an ability to work with researchers across disciplines, assisting in the use of data driven methods and computing more effectively in the discovery process.
INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Big data, large-scale analytics, and computational modeling and simulations are playing an increasingly important role in all industry sectors. Businesses recognize the value of these capabilities, but many require guidance and assistance in understanding computational infrastructure and support in research and development activities.
Industry partnerships in research, education, entrepreneurship, and economic development are integral aspects of RDI². RDI² enables companies of all sizes and sectors to take advantage of advanced computing technology and expertise.
ADVANCED Cyber-INFRASTRUCTURE (ACI) ECOSYSTEM
ACI IS THE CORE THAT PERMEATES ALL ASPECTS OF RDI² ACTIVITIES AND INCLUDES HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPUTING TECHNOLOGIES, DATA MANAGEMENT, COMPUTATIONAL SERVICES, AND ADVANCED VISUALIZATION.
RDI² supports a broad spectrum of disciplines in utilizing ACI, and also provides global linkages to the national and international ACI (such as XSEDE) that can be used, for example, to link observational instruments, data streams, experimental tools, and testbeds.
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
RDI² and its affiliate partners offer a variety of educational programs to students, academic researchers, and industry professionals. These include various certificate and degree programs, seminars in data science, data analytics, high performance computing, and advanced large scale computing. Seminars are open to the public, and short training modules are available to help academic and industry researchers acclimate to advanced computing hardware and software.
